Black Curtain Project
The Black Curtain Project is a series of hybrid productions by The Black Ship Co. that blend traditional theater techniques with new technology.
Black box theater is a half-century old tradition in which theater is staged in inexpensive, bare (often abandoned) spaces with minimal technical elements. It has long been celebrated as a means of producing new work when resources are scarce.
The Black Curtain Project embraces the heritage of black box theater by producing new, short works as digital videos that are available online, free of charge, to anyone who would like to see. Each video uses artistic conventions of staged productions to preserve the theatrical nature of the piece, while utilizing the visual vocabulary of video and the accessibility of the web.
Our first season will be accompanied by two new 10-minute Black Curtain Project videos. Look for them to premier online in the coming months.
